A couple of days ago at our morning meeting we were wondering what would happen if, after the sale and rebate had been made, Washington rejected someone's Cash for Clunkers trade-in. Somebody -- OK, it was me -- said nah, the rules were pretty clearly spelled out. Couldn't happen.

USA Today says, umm yeah, it is.The numbers are small, but the paper and the car Web site Edmunds.com are reporting some deals have been kicked back to dealers. On technicalities mostly.

And those dealers are asking consumers for the $4,500 rebate back.
